Obie is my sister's friend and classmate at Harvard University. I've been a fan of hers on instagram because she's hilarious and she occasionally offers some interesting social commentary.

I had a bad habit of making this misogynistic joke that "women aren't funny" but my sister's hilarious. I didn't really notice how much of a problem that comment was until Obie pointed it out. It made me reflect and I felt gross for using in the past. It was something that was really funny to me but for someone who has so many women in their life and who "claims" to be an advocate for women, it's insensitive and distasteful. I was embarrassed after reflecting on it, but I'll be adjusting in the future. I love this podcast for me because I want to understand my unconscious biases and make corrections. Not to virtue signal, but to make myself a more well-rounded and respectful person. I also hope others, especially other men, can follow my example and understand that you won't always be perfect, just admit when you're wrong and bow out gracefully. Misogyny is baked into our culture so listen when people tell you when you do or say something misogynistic and allow correction.

The majority of the conversation was very interesting. It started off with "when's the right time to tell a woman her man is tryna get with you". She shared some insightful takes about the Madonna-Whore complex and how patriarchy has both genders striving for the approval and validation of men. Very fascinating perspective I hadn't yet considered.

As I was reviewing the convo, there were a bunch of questions I was kicking myself for not asking so may have to get her on in the future. Thanks again for your time Obie!
