#5 - Deavay Tyler - The Importance of Mentorship & the Decolonization of God!

I met Deavay in person for the first time just a couple weeks ago. He had worked with my mom for years and my mom had been trying to connect us, she's always look for good role models to add to my network. We didn't meet until he came to Miami to visit some friends. I met him out for dinner and we clicked immediately. We were having good surface level conversation but it quickly escalated once I shamelessly shared some information that left me vulnerable. We took a really deep dive into spirituality and he started to recommend me 3 books, but I had already read or were currently reading all of them! Crazy right. 

Deavay is a great friend and mentor of mine now. We spent the first half of the conversation talking about mentorship. I'm hoping to be some what of a mentor to one of my friend's sons so I was asking him some questions about what it's like to give back to the younger generation. It boils down to building relationships and listening. Not complicated at all.

During the second half of the conversation I kick us off by asking a spiritual question I found on social media recently. A certain user had a problem with people saying "universe" instead of god. That leads to some great discussion. Deavay is awesome and I'm looking forward to connecting with him again soon.
